From Kimi Antonelli to Oliver Bearman, Jeremy Clarkson has something to say about all the rookies on the 2025 F1 grid. The British TV presenter and journalist, famous for his work with Richard Hammond and James May on *Top Gear* and *The Grand Tour*, is also a big motorsport fan. Writing for *The Sun*, he often discusses Formula 1, and this time, his focus is on the many newcomers in this season’s championship.
2025 is the season of the rookies. There are six on the grid, although Liam Lawson, now at Red Bull, already has considerable experience as a stand-in: Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), Oliver Bearman (Haas), Jack Doohan (Alpine), Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), and the New Zealander from Milton Keynes.
They are all very young but have already impressed insiders. In Melbourne, Antonelli—Toto Wolff’s highly sought-after talent—stood out among them. He was one of the few rookies to finish the race and the most impressive in the downpour at Albert Park. His fourth-place finish, capped off with a brilliant overtake on Alexander Albon, is already an important calling card.
Jeremy Clarkson introduces the F1 2025 rookies
In his *The Sun* column, Jeremy Clarkson delivers a typically humorous take: “The cars lining up on the grid in Australia this weekend are not very different from those that raced last year. But there are plenty of new drivers, some of whom are only 12 years old. Here’s a handy guide to cut out and keep, so you know who’s who.”
“Teaming up with George Russell at Mercedes is the Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is four years old. Among his past achievements is an impressive third place in the playground Grand Prix at his school last summer. Next, driving for Haas, is Britain’s Oliver Bearman, known for his performances after his mom burped him.” – he pointed out – “At Alpine, we have Jack Doohan, 11 years old, whose favorite food is baby biscuits. Over at Racing Bulls, there’s Isack Hadjar, a Frenchman who learned to drive by watching Hudson Hornet in *Cars*. Meanwhile, at Sauber, there’s Gabriel Bortoleto, a Brazilian who wears quick-release diapers so they can be changed during pit stops. Who will win? That’s easy. It’ll be that fifth-grader, Max Verstappen.” – the English television presenter and journalist concluded.
