Lando Norris has extended his McLaren contract until at least the end of 2030, strengthening a partnership that has already delivered a Formula 1 World Championship and giving the Woking team long-term stability around its reigning champion. Team principal Andrea Stella has welcomed the agreement by praising not only Lando Norris’ exceptional speed and consistency, but also the personal qualities that have made him such an important part of McLaren.
The agreement means McLaren can continue to rely on what Andrea Stella regards as one of Formula 1’s strongest driver partnerships. Oscar Piastri signed his own extension in March 2025, keeping him with the team until 2028, meaning the current line-up is guaranteed to remain together for at least another two seasons.
Lando Norris extends McLaren contract until 2030
Lando Norris already had a multi-year deal in place, but McLaren moved quickly to extend his commitment further, securing the British driver until at least the end of 2030. The long-term agreement clearly opens the possibility of Lando Norris spending his entire Formula 1 career with the Woking-based team.
That confidence is clearly mutual. The reigning world champion, who has won the last two races on the Formula 1 calendar, recently explained how comfortable he feels at McLaren and discussed the possibility of remaining with the team for the rest of his career, despite admitting that another – mysterious, although perhaps not entirely difficult to identify – team on the grid holds a certain attraction for him.
The new deal comes at a particularly positive moment for Lando Norris, whose recent form has underlined how much he has developed as a driver. The Briton has previously explained how he believes he has become a better Formula 1 driver in 2026, while McLaren’s latest technical progress has helped put him back at the front of the field.
Andrea Stella hails Lando Norris as an ‘exceptional driver’
Andrea Stella, who has been part of McLaren since 2015 following a long spell at Ferrari, expressed his satisfaction at securing the long-term future of the reigning Formula 1 world champion and one of the drivers establishing himself among the leading performers with the new generation of cars.
“Lando has been an integral part of McLaren’s journey and success for nine years, and we are delighted to continue our partnership with him until at least 2030,” Andrea Stella explained. “He is an exceptional driver, someone who combines outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency and a strong commitment to our team. But above all, he is a special person who is appreciated by everyone in the team.”
Lando Norris joined McLaren through its young-driver programme before making his Formula 1 debut with the team. Since then, he has been a central figure in the organisation’s return to the front of the grid, a resurgence that has continued into 2026 despite the challenge posed by Mercedes.
McLaren’s renewed competitiveness was highlighted by Lando Norris’ recent Dutch Grand Prix victory, after which the team turned its attention towards further upgrades aimed at closing the remaining gap to Mercedes.
McLaren secures long-term Norris and Piastri partnership
“Since joining McLaren as part of our young-driver programme,” Andrea Stella continued, “he has grown with us and played a central role in bringing the team back to the front of Formula 1. This extension gives us important continuity and strengthens our confidence in the direction we are taking together.”

The continuity is particularly valuable for a McLaren team that is once again fighting at the sharp end of Formula 1. Lando Norris believes the MCL40 already possesses enough performance to challenge for victories at suitable circuits and has argued that McLaren could fight for wins everywhere if it solves its low-speed weakness.
Oscar Piastri’s contract extension, signed in March 2025 and running until 2028, combined with the new Lando Norris agreement, therefore guarantees McLaren the same driver line-up for at least the next two Formula 1 seasons. For Andrea Stella, that continuity represents another important foundation as McLaren attempts to maintain its place among the championship’s leading teams.
