Andrea Stella is already thinking about 2025 F1 season
Fresh off winning his first Constructors’ World Championship title as team principal, McLaren boss Andrea Stella is not content. The 2025 season will be a challenging one, but the MCL38 ended the season with improved performance, and the Woking-based team hopes to maintain its advantage – or even increase it – in the upcoming championship, the last one before the technical regulations overhaul. Andrea Stella spoke about McLaren’s goals for the coming year to Sky during the Golden Helmets awards ceremony organized by the weekly Autosprint, held recently at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit in Imola.
McLaren triumph, Andrea Stella speaks
“In F1,” said the team principal, “there is great balance, with four teams always in a position to win. It has been a special season in terms of competitiveness, and it made us reflect on what we have achieved. Now we approach 2025 with an eye on innovation because, by mid-season, we realized that small incremental improvements wouldn’t be enough. So, you will see an innovative McLaren, and we hope to find the kind of performance that can make races a little less tense. We’d like to make Formula 1 a bit more boring (laughs). But we know it will be difficult, also for the enjoyment of everyone and for the good of the sport.”
Andrea Stella also spoke about the significant presence of Italian engineers and technicians at McLaren: “There is a strong Italian influence in this victory, not only because of me but also because a high percentage of the team members are our compatriots. A few days ago, I was in a meeting and realized that around the table, 20% were Italians. And it was a meeting with high-level staff, which made me think about how much our country contributes to this McLaren success. It’s a team that has evolved; it’s no longer just a British team but one with an international footprint. We’ve gathered the best from the cultural and professional contributions of various nationalities.” – the former Ferrari team member concluded.
