Alpine and Honda have reached an agreement with the international federation regarding procedural budget cap violations they were accused of for the 2023 Formula 1 season. The FIA announced the news, emphasizing that the irregularities by the two power unit manufacturers were minor and committed in good faith, while keeping their relevant costs within the spending cap limit for the reporting period considered.
“The Cost Cap Administration offered both manufacturers an Acceptance of Breach Agreement (“ABA”) to resolve these matters,” reads the FIA’s official statement, “an offer that was accepted by both parties. The Cost Cap Administration recognized that both power unit manufacturers cooperated and acted in good faith throughout the entire review process and promptly sought to provide additional information and evidence when requested.” Further leniency was given due to this being the “first year of full application of the financial regulations for power units, with no accusations or evidence suggesting that Alpine or HRC sought or gained any undue advantage as a result of the violation.”
Honda was fined $600,000 (460,000 pounds), while Alpine was ordered to pay $400,000 (307,000 pounds). Both manufacturers have 30 days to pay the fines. Honda had “included incorrect costs that were excluded and/or adjusted in the calculation of its relevant costs” for the cap, including costs related to dynamometer maintenance and inventory. Alpine “submitted reporting documentation for the 2023 reporting period that was inaccurate as it omitted relevant information,” according to the FIA’s Cost Cap Administration commission.
