In a period of significant internal restructuring, the Visa Cash App RB team – also known as VCARB and serving as Red Bull’s junior team in Formula 1 – has officially announced that Alan Permane will take over the role of Team Principal with immediate effect. This change comes as a result of Laurent Mekies being promoted to the position of Chief Executive Officer at Red Bull Racing, amid broader upheaval within the Red Bull organization, particularly concerning the uncertain future of Christian Horner.
Who is Alan Permane, the New VCARB Team Principal
Alan Permane, who has been serving as VCARB’s Sporting Director, now steps into the operational leadership of Red Bull’s sister team. He has been a key contributor to the early stages of the Racing Bulls project and is recognized as one of the most experienced figures in the Formula 1 paddock. With a long and respected career that spans over three decades, most notably with Renault and Alpine, Permane brings both continuity and technical authority to the team.
“I am truly honored to take on the role of Team Principal and would like to thank Oliver and Helmut for placing their trust in me,” Permane stated, referring to VCARB CEO Oliver Mintzlaff and Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko. “This is an exciting new chapter for me, but I know I can count on the support of everyone in the team.”
Laurent Mekies Bids Farewell: “Permane Is the Right Man for the Job”
Laurent Mekies expressed words of appreciation and optimism during the leadership transition, emphasizing his confidence in Permane’s capabilities. “It has been a privilege to lead this team alongside Peter over the past seasons. Alan is the perfect person to take the helm now: he knows the squad inside out and has been a foundational pillar in our early successes,” said Mekies.
With this statement, Laurent Mekies officially steps away from his direct role at the head of VCARB to begin his new duties as Chief Executive Officer of Red Bull Racing, a position of major influence within the Formula 1 hierarchy.
An Evolving Landscape Inside the Red Bull Universe
Mekies’ move to the top of Red Bull Racing has been interpreted by many as the first concrete step in what could become a major reshuffling of the leadership structure within the Red Bull motorsport empire. Speculation continues to swirl that Christian Horner has already been unofficially dismissed, pending formal confirmation from Red Bull’s ownership.
In this context, Alan Permane’s appointment as Team Principal of VCARB appears to be a deliberate and strategic decision. The goal is to ensure internal stability, maintain strong technical direction, and provide clear leadership as the Red Bull ecosystem braces for further structural changes at both its senior and junior teams.
