Team principal Andy Cowell reveals the methodical approach of the former Red Bull designer: continuous creativity and technical rigor are transforming the Silverstone team
Adrian Newey’s dedication to the Aston Martin project goes far beyond standard office hours. Andy Cowell, team principal of the Silverstone-based squad, has revealed an intriguing detail about the work habits of the renowned designer: a second home workstation that allows him to translate his ideas into sketches whenever inspiration strikes, even at the most unexpected moments.
The impact of the British engineer on Lawrence Stroll’s technical team is proving to be deeper than anticipated. Since his official arrival on September 10, the 65-year-old has brought a methodology that is permeating the entire organization, accelerating development processes and optimizing wind tunnel testing sessions.
“We’re not just talking about taking a laptop home,” Cowell explained in statements to Racing News 365. “Adrian rolls up his drawings and continues to work even during his personal time. His involvement in understanding the 2026 regulations and contributing to the car’s architecture has been extraordinary since the first day of March.”
The partnership with Honda, which will see Aston Martin become the Japanese manufacturer’s official works team starting in 2026, represents the horizon toward which all current efforts are directed. The AMR26 project already bears Newey’s unmistakable signature, as he has taken on the primary technical responsibility for the car destined for the new regulatory era.
The technical staff assembled by the British team includes some of the most prestigious names in the Formula 1 paddock. Alongside Newey, the team features Enrico Cardile (recently freed from Ferrari after legal disputes over contract duration), Eric Blandin, and Luca Furbatto, creating one of the most concentrated pools of talent in recent motorsport history.
The influence of the English designer is visible through a tangible increase in the team’s working pace. His presence has triggered a multiplier effect across all departments, from design to aerodynamic testing, generating a synergy that promises to translate into concrete competitive advantages when the new generation of power units makes its debut.
