Adrian Newey refuses to rule out Christian Horner as Aston Martin considers management tweaks. Adrian Newey addresses Christian Horner to Aston Martin rumours.

Christian Horner, Red Bull team boss 2024

Adrian Newey has stopped short of ruling out the possibility of Christian Horner joining Aston Martin, while confirming that changes could still be made to the Silverstone team’s management structure. The former Red Bull team principal has been repeatedly linked with a Formula 1 return since leaving the Milton Keynes organisation, and Aston Martin remains one of the most intriguing potential destinations.

Christian Horner may have been away from a Formula 1 leadership role for more than a year, but his name continues to circulate around the paddock. As one of the most experienced and successful senior figures of the modern era, he remains an attractive option for ambitious teams, although Christian Horner himself has made clear that any return would need to involve a project capable of winning.

Christian Horner continues to be linked with Aston Martin

Over recent months, Christian Horner has been associated with several teams without any move materialising. A number of midfield organisations could benefit from his experience, but Aston Martin stands out as one of the operations with the financial resources and long-term ambition required to make such an appointment realistic.

At Silverstone, Christian Horner would also be reunited with Adrian Newey, with whom he worked through Red Bull’s most successful periods. Their relationship was the subject of considerable speculation towards the end of their time together at Red Bull, with suggestions that tensions had developed between the two.

Despite that history, Adrian Newey did not categorically dismiss the prospect when asked about Christian Horner before the summer break.

“I keep hearing a lot of comments about Christian, but I can’t say too much. I can only say that we’re happy with our management. We could make some changes, but overall we have no complaints.”

Newey confirms Aston Martin could make management changes

Adrian Newey’s comments are not confirmation that Aston Martin intends to recruit Christian Horner. In fact, the current team principal stressed that the organisation is satisfied with the senior personnel already in place. However, his acknowledgement that changes remain possible ensures the speculation has not been completely closed down.

The more immediate priority at Aston Martin has been restructuring the organisation itself. After a difficult opening phase of the 2026 season, the team made a deliberate decision to focus less on introducing constant upgrades and more on improving the way its growing technical structure operates.

“In terms of personnel, after Melbourne we decided not to bring major upgrades to the car anymore, but to focus our energy on creating a better group, developing a certain culture in the factory, having new tools and taking some pressure off ourselves.”

That approach has formed part of a wider effort to make Aston Martin’s considerable investment work more effectively. The team has brought together Adrian Newey, its new facilities and Honda’s works power unit programme, although the beginning of the partnership proved difficult before the relationship and development process began to improve. The Aston Martin-Honda relationship has already shown signs of progress after its troubled start.

Could Horner and Newey work together again?

The possibility of Christian Horner arriving at Aston Martin therefore remains just that: a possibility. Adrian Newey has neither endorsed the idea nor ruled it out, while making clear that the team’s current focus is on strengthening its existing organisation.

For Christian Horner, the attraction would be obvious if Aston Martin can eventually turn Lawrence Stroll’s investment into a genuine championship challenge. For Aston Martin, meanwhile, adding another proven Formula 1 leader would only make sense if it fitted the structure Newey and the rest of the senior management are trying to build.

For now, Aston Martin appears more interested in refining that structure than replacing it. But with Adrian Newey openly acknowledging that management changes could still be made, Christian Horner’s name is unlikely to disappear from the conversation surrounding the Silverstone team.
