The famous podcast by Giorgio Terruzzi sparks another debate, and this time, Lando Norris is under the microscope. His unimpressive performance during the Saudi Arabia weekend has reignited the discussion about the actual capabilities of the English driver when it comes to competing at the highest levels.
During the Jeddah weekend, Lando Norris made serious mistakes both in qualifying and during the race. On Saturday, he ended his Q3 session by crashing into the wall, securing only tenth place on the grid. In the race, he finished in fourth place but couldn’t battle for the podium due to a problematic overtaking attempt on Lewis Hamilton.
Norris’ tough weekend: criticism rains down on the McLaren driver. The difficulties in overtaking were especially under fire. “Norris even made Hamilton look strong.” Yes, it’s no secret that this isn’t Hamilton’s best performance, yet Lewis Hamilton overtook Lando Norris twice, driving an SF-25 that was clearly inferior to Lando Norris’ McLaren.
Giorgio Terruzzi analyzes the mistake made by driver number 4. “Norris misjudged the timing of the overtaking. I’m sure he’ll blossom eventually and remove these embarrassments. It’s clear the problem is all in his head and he needs to overcome this limitation.”
Pino Allievi, however, is much less forgiving. “In Saudi Arabia, he made mistakes in qualifying and in the race. He never stops being childish; it’s like he grew up in a land of toys. Until two years ago, he kept playing in the paddock with Verstappen, thinking everyone was nice to him. Then Max pushed him off track twice, and he had to wake up.”
But that’s not all. “The mistake on Hamilton is really a childish one; you can’t make the same mistake twice. But he keeps making the same errors and he shouldn’t be doing that anymore. He’s raced in several Grands Prix, and he can’t keep making amateur mistakes.” A harsh judgment, but perhaps fair enough, considering we’re talking about an F1 vice-world champion.
