Lando Norris dominated the Mexican Grand Prix, securing the Formula 1 championship lead with a solid and strategic performance. Max Verstappen cut the gap in the standings thanks to a podium finish, demonstrating his consistency. The title fight is heating up, as highlighted by the Italian journalist Luigi Perna in his editorial for Gazzetta dello Sport.
“The drivers are now separated by just 36 points, with only four races remaining in the season. What initially seemed like a championship overwhelmingly dominated by McLaren has transformed into an open battle, kept alive by the ever-dangerous Max Verstappen, capable of staying in contention until the very last checkered flag.
The Red Bull ace has recovered an impressive 68 points over the last five Grand Prix events. In Mexico, he could have further reduced the gap to the formidable ‘Papaya twins’ Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, had he not encountered, in the final three laps, the tenacity of Charles Leclerc and a Virtual Safety Car that effectively froze the race.
McLaren continues to dominate the scene, but its drivers relentlessly challenge each other, while Max Verstappen remains an imposing shadow, eyeing a spectacular comeback that could secure his fifth consecutive title. At the front, the two ‘Papaya’ drivers alternate in the lead: in Mexico City, it was Norris’ turn, converting pole position into a win that puts him on top of the standings by just one point over Oscar Piastri.
The Australian seems to have struggled since Monza, unable to regain the early-season brilliance. For this reason, Verstappen still hopes to outsmart both, accustomed to rarely making mistakes. The championship is thus set for a thrilling sprint, worthy of the most legendary battles: reminiscent of 2007 with Kimi Räikkönen or 2010 with Sebastian Vettel, when the title was decided in the final meters.”
